Scott Harry Wasylyk was born on November 24, 1955 and passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on April 24, 2023 at age 67.
Scott was born in Winnipeg. He was a proud husband and father to the loves of his life Jackie and Dan.
He will be missed by his wife Jackie and son Dan; his brother Russ (Kim); his brother-in-law Allan (Mary) Nicholson; sisters-in-law Angie (Jeff) Cieszeck and Andrea (Randy) Slocombe; and many nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his parents Harry Jr., Evangeline Wasylyk and brother Glenn.
One of Scott’s biggest accomplishments was expanding the family business from his father Harry. As president of Grainmaster Mfg. Scott grew the company into a prosperous business with his brother Russ and cousin Tom. In continuing tradition from his father Harry, he invited customers and coworkers on the annual fly-in Sasaginnigak fishing trip. “What happens at Sas stays at Sas.”
There were countless family trips with Jackie and Dan to sunny spots fishing and golfing. But his favourite trip was playing in the Tournament of Champions at Kapaula in Maui where Scott golfed with his son Dan, his brother Russ and friends. The pro golfer they chose was Russell Henley. On the 8th hole of Kapaula Scott missed a hole-in-one by two inches. The pros caddy took out his view finder because they thought it was a hole-in-one. As they approached the green the crowd went crazy. It was just behind the pin. Scott was going to mark his ball so Russell Henley could putt, but Russell said “Don’t worry about marking it, just don’t miss that f**king putt.” Scott made the putt.
The many salmon fishing trips took them to Milbanke Sound, British Columbia where Scott caught a 51 pound Chinook Salmon that still hangs on the basement wall today. Scott will be missed by many for his generosity, warm personality, quick witt and humour. No one could tell a story like our Scotty. He would draw you into it remembering vivid detail from the past that had his audience breaking out in laughter!
He was a phenomenal husband, father, brother, friend, and businessman.
Jackie and Dan would like to thank the palliative home care team and the staff at Riverview where he spent his final three days.
As per Scott’s request there will be no funeral.
In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make a donation to a charity that touches their hearts.
Scott would say “Have a shoobie (Wasylyk family term for cocktail) in honour of the incredible life I’ve had”.
We will always love you and miss you!
