Obituary for
Sandra Bartlett
Sandra Elaine (Peyton) Bartlett – Age 79, Truro.
The family of Sandra Elaine Bartlett are saddened to announce her passing on May 22, 2023, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Born July 4, 1943, in the ‘Depot’ in Newfoundland, Sandra was the youngest daughter of the late Herbert Munden and Violet (Noseworthy) Peyton of Bishops Falls, Newfoundland. Loving sister, and predeceased by Lillian, Ada, Roy, Audrey, Norman, Bernice, Gloria, Harry, Frances, Max and survived by sister, Margaret Escajeda of Augusta, Maine and brother, Gary (Eva) Peyton of Corner Brook, Newfoundland.
Sandra first met the love of her life, Willis, at the age of fourteen in Bishop’s Falls, NL. Married on June 2, 1962, their courtship turned to a marriage of almost 61 years. How Willis and Sandra began their courtship can also describe their 61 years of marriage; meeting each other halfway in love, careers, homes, raising four daughters, the ups and downs of sharing a lifetime together with compassion, patience and respect for each other.
The greatest source of joy in Sandra’s life were her four daughters and the gift of ten grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Laurie Gloria Eagles, husband, Mike, Evan (Monique) and Nathan; Claudette Elaine Passero, husband, John, Matthew (Brittany) and soon-to-arrive baby Cooper and Samantha (Mike) and their son, Joshua John; Tamie Geraldine Lowther and Alex (Katie) and Tegan; Sherrie-Lynne Clow, husband, Charles and Avery, Ailyn, Sophie and Oliver.
Sandra and Willis were part of the Canadian Military family for 25 years and as such established many deep and lasting connections across Canada, being stationed in CFB Gander; CFB Halifax; CFB Gypsumville, CFB Sydney and CFB Borden; and finally, CFB Debert (Truro/Bible Hill area) where they spent the greater part of 42 years. Although, no matter where Sandra lived, Newfoundland was always home, more specifically, Bishop’s Falls and the house on the Exploits River. There were countless summers spent walking the trestle and sharing special time with family which meant everything to Sandra.
Every life event, no matter how big or small, holds significant memories whether you called her Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, sister or friend. Sandra loved celebrating her friends’ and family’s accomplishments throughout every moment of their lives and dedicated her time to teaching her daughters how to create family memories through her love of Christmas, family dinners, picnics, and often doing something unexpected, like white water rafting and ziplining at the age of 70. We all hold pieces of Sandra through her stitchwork of all the baby blankets, knitted mittens, and the recipes that we will continue to share together.
Special thanks to the kind and compassionate care of Colchester East Hants VON, emergency health services and all the staff at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Sandra’s memory.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 25th from 6-8 pm with a funeral service on Friday, May 26th at 11:00am both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Webcasting will begin at 10:58am (AST) and is available along with online condolences at www.ColchesterCommunity.com.
