Obituary
Rob Riley, beloved partner of Linda Briegert of Shaughnessy, AB, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre with his family by his side on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the age of 68 years.
Rob is the loving father and grandfather to his daughter Stephanie Winch and her children Josh Winch and Avery Winch of Picture Butte. As well as father and grandfather to his son Jon Riley and his children Jessie Riley, Kristie Riley, and Haley Riley. He is also grandpa to Shayla Thurlow, Madyson Thurlow, Kenzley Thurlow, and Jordynn Maljaars.
Rob is survived by his sisters June Rogers and Linda Riley. As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Rob was predeceased by his mother Pauline Riley; his father Gordon Riley; sister Marie Riley; stepdaughters Ashley Thurlow and Nikki Taylor; and stepson Dylan Taylor.
Rob was born on July 9, 1955 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He attended school in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and Antigonish, Nova Scotia. While there he drove an oil truck for Gulf Oil and worked on a couple of cattle farms. He went to truck driving school at age 17, then went to work in White Horse. After awhile he went back to Nova Scotia and drove the oil truck again before heading to Alberta at age 19. Rob continued his career as a truck driver and owned his own Bobcat business. As a truck driver he travelled a lot and saw much of Canada and the United States.
Rob loved motor cross, stock car racing, and spending time with friends and family. He hosted many pig roasts and Friday nights in the shop. His shop was always open for anyone that wanted to say hi. He loved car shows, with his 1949 Ford Mercury and his Jeep Willy’s. Rob collected a lot of things in his shop, and everything had a story. His love for animals was out of this world. He would always pretend he was talking for them in the funniest ways. His dog named Dog was truly his best friend.
Anyone who knew Dad knew that he was larger than life. He lived every day and enjoyed life to the fullest. There is not a single person he knew that wouldn’t have a story to share. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dad did not want a funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at Rob’s house on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 1:00 P.M.
