Obituary
HANCOCK, Robert Roy (Long time Peterborough Real Estate Agent). Peacefully at PRHC with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 in his 82rd year. Bob, beloved husband of 56 years to Lyndia (nee Welch). Loving and devoted father of Stephen and his wife Sandi, and Sally Fletcher and her husband Todd. Cherished Grandpa of Sophie, Finley, and Jaime. Dear brother of Ron (Elaine), Bruce (Peggy), Pat (Henk), and brother-in-law of Diane Johnson (Ray, predeceased).
Bob, the avid private Pilot for 64 years, enjoyed his own Super Club plane on floats that he flew from our home for both recreation and business. He was a Realtor since 1972 at both Bowes and Cocks and RE/MAX. He was also a long-time member of the Peterborough Lodge Shrine Club, the Peterborough Sales and Ad Club, and the Air Force Association of Canada. He enjoyed many years as a member of the Bully ‘O Hunt Club, especially the years introducing our son Steve to the hunting and outdoor experience.
Bob enjoyed many long-term friendships including Gerry Munroe, Dave & Barb Edgerton, Glen & Betty Gulick, Ray & Athabelle Tighe, Doug & Charlotte Robinson to name just a few. He remained close to the Woodland Acres neighbours especially the Andersons, Boyds, Fletchers, and Greenleys. He also developed friendships with our current neighbours the Clarkes, Stamplecoskies, Hinzes, Kimmos and Stanleys. Bob was even declared “The Coolest Guy “on the street by the younger generation – maybe to do with the motorcycle, ATV, Jet Ski, boat, airplane, paintball gun, potato gun and drone. Not to mention the remote-control cars to chase the geese and race with his Grandson Finley.
Bob also developed many strong relationships from his client group he worked with that have remained strong friends, including Rob French and Rob Bartlett to name just a couple. He enjoyed the social coffee group at Dave Edgerton’s, and also the Lakefield coffee group originally with Terry Kuch (Lenore), Bill Mitchell (Arlene) and Paul Thompson (Jana). Strong ties have been made with other agents and staff at work such as Tom Nisbett (Trudy), Bill Wolff, Bob Hamersma (Lee), Shirley McDowell, Winny Norman, John Hope and of course Carolyn. This collection of special friends (sorry if some are missed) was maintained in person and through current technology which Bob figured was just for sending jokes!
Bob’s main passion was his airplane which he would talk about in any conversation after the first 30 seconds! A flight with Bob as the pilot was also the entertainment of our first date. He was delighted and very proud when our daughter Sally got her pilot’s license. Mechanics that have worked on Bob’s plane are also very good friends such as Brian Freymond and Gerry Losee. When the plane was having inspections and repairs Bob always made extra trips to oversee that his baby was being properly cared for and to be amongst those who loved to fly as much as him. He was flying his plane just two weeks before his medical condition was diagnosed November 10th. He was also playing his guitar for over 1¼ hr just two weeks prior to his passing.
Bob had a wide range of interests and talents that he used to better himself and encourage others. He passed on his passion of music by introducing Jaime to the harmonica and ukulele, and Sophie to the guitar which she continues to play. Finley is inspired by all the gadgets and motorized vehicles that he and Grandpa played with.
Bob enjoyed life and did not want it to end just yet, but he was 81 and had a long, creative, successful, fun life and was not afraid to die. In his words “I have lived a great life and have no regrets.” We tried to prolong his time here if it was at a level that was acceptable to him but that was not to be. Bob’s wish was to have a non-traditional funeral to provide an opportunity for all his family and friends to come together and support one another while celebrating a life well lived.
Everyone’s support and assistance to our family, especially over the past two months, has been greatly appreciated.
We sincerely thank you,
Lyndia, Stephen and Sally
