Obituary of Rob Canning
John Robert “Rob” Canning – Rob’s family is devastated to share with you that early Sunday morning, March 19th Rob was taken “home” in a motor vehicle accident. Rob was such a vibrant, fun-loving, caring person who never met a stranger. His struggles with mental health were extremely challenging and constant, however in spite everything going on in his head, he loved to make people smile and laugh. His main goal was to get well enough to return to work in Alberta where he could be near his children and his friends at Bravo Target. Rob was an amazing people person, he had the gift of being able to keep contact with so many of his friends all over the globe – even ones back to elementary school and swim team.
Even while in Nova Scotia receiving treatment for his mental health, he was so proud of Bradley and Natalie and Zander and how they were growing and developing into such amazing young adults. He loved his Facetimes with them and loved to tell all of us here in Nova Scotia what was going on in their lives. Being so far away was excruciatingly difficult for him because he just wanted to share in their lives, their joys and their sorrows.
As many of our young people have, Rob left Nova Scotia and his ocean to move to Alberta to find employment. Through that move he flourished, having several different jobs which provided him the skillsets to go along with his people skills to become an engaged and respected employee for Bravo Target, a safety and emergency response company working in the oilfields in Western Canada where he leaves many friends and colleagues. That’s where he also fell in love and married the mother of his children.
Rob is remembered dearly by his children, Bradley, Natalie and Zander (Tulliby Lake, AB), their mother, Rebecca Eaton; his parents, John and Pamela Canning, and Joan Cameron and Gerry MacDougall; his siblings, Jason (Tania), Vanessa, Tyler (Liane); his nephews, Kyle, Conner, Ethan and Logan and nieces, Kourtney, Emily, Kaitryn and Haylie. Also cherishing his memory are his grandmothers, Dorothy Canning and Edna Laffin. He will also be lovingly remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Rob was predeceased by his grandfathers, Russell Canning, Elmer Cameron and his grandparents, Ted and Dorothy Boehk. He was also predeceased by three uncles who were very special in his life, Chet Canning, David Canning, and Ronald Boehk.
His remains have been cremated and his ashes will be transported to Alberta in the care of his children. Donations in memory of Rob can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Paul United Church Roof Fund or the organization of your choice.
His funeral service will be Saturday, March 25th at 2:00 p.m. from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Cpt. Rev. Dr. Mary Taylor officiating. Everyone is invited to come together for fellowship and refreshments following the service at the St. Paul United Church Hall on 1944 Church Street, Westville. The service will be live streamed for those who are unable to attend and may be watched by clicking on this link. (link will be posted on Thursday)
