Richard’s Obituary
Richard James Robicheau
December 29, 1933-April 11, 2023
First son of Frank and Eva (Hubbard) Robicheau; born in Yarmouth, NS, December 29, 1933; died in Yarmouth Hospital, April 11, 2023, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Agnes; his brother, George (Freda) of Sackville, NS; sister, Kay (Stan) Wight of Dartmouth, NS; his three children and many grandchildren.
Married firstly to Joyce Nickerson of Overton (predeceased), children born in Yarmouth are: Cindy (Carly, Cory [Kevin]), Richard (Sara [Brandon, Hannah]), Janet [Aiden, Chace, Maera], Haylee), and Wendy (Emma, Ethan); secondly to Agnes Atkinson originally of Wedgeport. He will also be dearly missed by Agnes’ family, especially her siblings; her sons, Mike and Mel d’Eon and their families.
Words fail to describe the numerous lives he touched and the memories he has given to so many who were fortunate enough to know him. Richard worked for the Yarmouth Royal Store, Fred Deveau’s General Store in Mavillette, Century 21 in Yarmouth, and two outlets of the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission in Yarmouth (from which he retired). A devout Roman Catholic, he was a member and usher at St. Ambrose Parish in Yarmouth, sang in the choir, coordinated the Parish’s Sunday School, and participated in the Cursillo Movement. Richard served many years as the Treasurer for the Knights of Columbus, Council 2181, Yarmouth.
Richard lived in Overton for most of his adult life in a house he built next to his Nickerson in-laws. He enjoyed building things, tinkering in the garage, playing 45s with friends and family, drinking fine wines, eating very old cheese, and spending time with his brothers-in-law hunting, fishing, or working ‘out in the big garden’. Richard was a self-taught musician, playing a variety of instruments and singing the oldies. He enjoyed good humour and appreciated life’s ironies. He also loved to travel and did so often until his illness prevented him from leaving home.
With Agnes’ care, Richard was able to remain at home throughout most of his illness. We thank his network of caregivers, including the VON and Continuing Home Care for their assistance before he went to hospital as well as the nursing staff at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
Today we are filled with lovely memories of Richard, Dad, Grampy Richard, Tea Grampy. You will be missed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth. The funeral will take place at St. Ambrose Co-Cathederal Parish, Yarmouth, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 11a.m., with interment to follow. Visitation takes place at Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth on Monday, April 17, 2023, between 6 p.m. and 8p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Richard’s children request that you donate to the VON to support their important work in helping those in need. Thank you. You may leave messages of condolence for the family by visiting www.huskilson.net
