The Rev Father George Albert Cedric Jones passed into the closer presence of the Lord on January 27, 2023.
Born in Victoria on April 20, 1925. Cedric had a 41-year career in newspaper circulation with the Times/Times Colonist.
A lifelong member of the Anglican Church, Cedric served in lay ministry at Christ Church Cathedral and St. Saviour’s Anglican Church, Victoria.
He was ordained Deacon on December 8, 1981, and was appointed to St. Stephen’s/St. Mary’s South Saanich. He was priested in 1986 and served for 20 years on the chaplaincy team of the Gorge Road Hospital, and then as Honorary assistant at All Saint’s View Royal.
Cedric from his birth to 18 years of age spent his summer times at the family cabin in Brentwood Bay fishing, sailing, boating and swimming. He had wonderful carefree holidays.
Cedric contributed to life in Victoria by volunteering as Air Raid Warden (ARP) and volunteer ambulance driver for South Vancouver Island Rangers (SVIR) working with the RCMP looking for lost and missing persons.
He served on the Cridge Board of Directors.
He was a founding member of the Shoreline Kennel Club serving as Ring Stewart and as Show Superintendent. He was ring assistant for the Canadian Kennel Club.
Cedric was also Chaplain to the Army Cadet Corp and the Times Colonist Newspaper.
He was an avid stamp collector and the recipient of many awards for his excellent research and skill in assembling his work.
Cedric was pre-deceased by his baby sister, his parents and first wife Joan Mary. He is survived by his cherished wife Margaret, his devoted girls Gail and Carmen, his cousins Marylin, Shelley, Laurie and their families, and the blessed gift of Margaret’s children, Neil and Angela and their families, and his sister-in-law, Nancy. Fr. Cedric remembers with gratitude many clergy associates, parishioners and colleagues, friends and family who have touched his life over the years.
Many thanks for all the wonderful care Cedric received at Luther Court.
A celebration of Fr. Cedric’s life with Requiem Mass will be held at St. Barnabas Church (Belmont and Begbie), Victoria, on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 4:00 pm.
