Cosbey, Reta Eyleen (nee Rose)
Life began in Toronto on May 23, 1930, for Reta Eyleen Cosbey (nee Rose) with parents Neta Victoria (nee Rombough) and William Henry Rose. Reta passed, May 25, 2023, in the presence of her family at home on Wingfield Road, Stirling. She is predeceased by her parents, her younger brother, Rev. H.S. Rose and the love of her life, Robert Harvey Cosbey (1997). Their marriage in Picton, conducted by Rev. Heaven in February 1948, led to the birth of three children Judith Ilene Heasman (husband Fred), John Robert Cosbey (wife Joyce) and Brian David Cosbey. Reta is also survived by brother “Bill” William Rose of Oshawa. Much loved by grandchildren Heather Elaine Martin, Sandra Lee Ann, Angela Jean Finch, Lesley Ellen Garrison, Michael John Cosbey and Amy Nicole Cosbey; great grandchildren Tyson, Brendan, Emma and Payton Finch; Caley, Logan and Devon Cosbey; and Myles Garrison. Adopted daughter Debra Jeanne Dawson, special foster daughter Linda Bedard-Broughton, special GG to Kira and Nan to Weston. Aunt to Terry, Kathy, Cheryl, Karen, Sari, Sylvia, Matthew and the late Kevin. Godmother to Rhonda Lafferty who she delivered.
Although Reta lost her hearing as a young girl, she persevered and graduated from high school. Employment at Sir James Whitney in Belleville increased her ability to lip read and communicate in sign language. Reta and husband Bob opened their farm home to the CAS fostering seventy-seven children over seventeen years of service. A city girl became a farm wife, mother to many, accomplished seamstress in child clothing, and craft work. Gardening, flowers and love of music also filled her life. Surgery in Toronto resulted in regaining her hearing ability and provided opportunity to demonstrate her beautiful voice in church choir. Reta is loved for her never-ending patience, dedication to her family, her ability to manage a farm and common-sense approach to life along with her strong belief in the rights of others. A much loved daughter of a WWII Veteran will leave behind a path of gentle and loving ways for her family to follow.
Family and Friends will be received at Rushnell Funeral Home, 9 Bursthall St, Marmora on Saturday, June 3rd from 10:30am to Noon. Funeral Service to follow. Interment Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Springbrook. Reverend Rodney Smith and Stephen Finch officiating. Reception hosted by the United Church Women at Springbrook United Church.
