Ralph Franklin Southard
1942-2023
The passing of Ralph Franklin Southard, husband of Katherine
“Kaye” (Fraser) Southard of St. George NB occurred
peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on July
21, 2023. Born in Blacks Harbour NB on June 8, 1942, Ralph was a son
of the late Vernon and Annie (Stewart) Southard. A loving and devoted
husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife,
Kaye, Ralph is survived by his children: Paul (Diana) Southard of
Oakville ON, Eric Southard of Lee Settlement NB, Melanie (Brent)
Goodrich of St. George NB and Jennifer Getchell (Scott Dougan) also of
St. George NB; his grandchildren: Camryn, Danielle, Noah, Josh and
Dylan; one brother: Donnie (Pat) Southard of St. George NB; one
sister: Marilyn (Rick) Ingram of New Maryland NB; sister-in-law: Linda
Stewart of Westville NS; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one sister: Alice Costello
(late George Costello).
During his career, Ralph wore many hats and, in the end,
retired from the Department of Transportation in St. George. He was
extremely active in his younger days, he enjoyed badminton, curling,
skating, hockey and being outside hunting or fishing. He was a super
competitive card player and enjoyed beating anyone he could at a game
of Crib. In his quiet time, Ralph enjoyed nothing more than being
surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren who brought him
so much joy. His love and devotion to his family will be sadly
missed.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home
(755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Resting at the funeral
home with a public visitation on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 12:00
Noon until 2:00 pm. A private family service will be held with
interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. In Ralph’s
memory, donations to the St. George Animal Shelter or to Charlotte
County Cancer would be appreciated by the family.
