A resident of Chatham, Paula (Polly) Vannieuwenhuyze passed away peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at the age of 94.
She was the daughter of the late Camille & Mary Louise (nee VanDommele) DeFreyne.
Paula is reunited with her husband, the late Jerome (1982).
Beloved mother of David Vannieuwenhuyze, Eileen Gawne (Paul) & Michael Vannieuwenhuyze (Karen).
Grandma of Darrell, Vicki (Rob), Kerry (Roland), Krissy, Rob (Martha), Brad (Nicole), & Tara (Steve). Predeceased by grandson, Martin.
Great-Grandma of Baylie, Owen, Shawn, Trinity, Olivia, Hailey, & Lydia.
Sister of the late Leona Bishop (2018).
Missed by many nieces, nephews & special friend, Joan Martin.
Polly enjoyed line dancing at the Active Lifestyle Centre. She volunteered with the Canadian Blood Services for many years. She was a former member of the Beechwood Women’s Institute. Polly loved to bake, crochet and watching Dancing With The Stars.
Family to receive friends on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm & 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 180 Wellington Street, Chatham at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery, Thamesville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
