FRIED: Orville Lawrence- passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2023 at the St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener. Orville Fried of RR#1 Plattsville was in his 87th year.
Beloved husband of Ruth (Coleman) Fried whom he married 65 years ago on June 7,1958. Dear father of Brian (Nov 15, 2020) & wife Lori of RR#4 Bright, Kevin & wife Kim of Plattsville, Brad & wife Belinda of New Hamburg and Darrell & wife Lisa of RR#1 Plattsville. Cherished grandfather to Nathan & Shelby, Keenan, Jennifer & Trevor, Derrick & Nychelle, Ryan & Gillian, Jay & Shayna, Roslyn & Eric, Avery, and great grandfather of Sloane, Briar Mae, Sawyer, Sutton, Mason, Emma, Ellis, Maren, Senna, Asher and Auston. Survived by his sister Glenda & husband Ross Roth of New Hamburg and sister-in-law Bev Fried of RR#1 New Dundee. He will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
Predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Ethel (Becker) Fried, and by his brother Keith Fried (2019).
Orville was a lifelong progressive dairy farmer in Blenheim Township where he farmed alongside Ruth and their four boys as Clefthaven Farms. He loved his John Deere tractors, bulldozer, and “pet” deer.
Orv was always a very busy guy. He was involved in many clubs and organizations over his lifetime. The Blenheim Plowing Organization, being a judge for the International Plowing Match and local matches, and the Oxford County Milk Board just to name a few.
Orv enjoyed many sports including hockey, baseball, and curling. In his younger years, he played for the Junior B hockey club, the New Hamburg Canucks. Playing turned into coaching and being on executive boards for hockey clubs. This passion led to 25 years of season tickets for the Kitchener Rangers where he enjoyed many games with Ruth and family. He also enjoyed watching his beloved Toronto Blue Jays.
Orville and Ruth travelled to many parts of the world for International, Canadian, and World Plowing Matches. One of his favourite things to do when travelling was always stopping for ice cream. During winter they liked to travel to Cuba, Costa Rica, and his favourite the “Dominion” Republic, as well as many cruises.
Relatives and friends will be received in the Roseville United Brethren Church, 2729 Fischer-Hallman Rd., Ayr (Roseville) on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 10am – 1pm. followed by the Memorial Service at 2pm. Reception to follow. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Roseville United Brethren Church or the Cardiac Care unit of St. Mary’s General Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family. Personal condolences can be posted at www.gffh.ca
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Glendinning Funeral Home, 40 William St. N. Plattsville.
