Freund, Norma Jean (nee Ferguson) (April 17, 1936 – September 13, 2023)
It is with great sadness, that we the family of Norma Jean Freund wish to announce the peaceful passing of our much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, after a courageous struggle with illness, on September 13th, 2023, at her former Tillsonburg residence, at the age of 87. Norma is lovingly remembered as “the love of his life and an angel on Earth” to her husband of 67 wonderful years, Joe Freund. Norma aka Nana, was an amazing wife and mother, the epitome of perfection. She was an immensely devoted and giving person. Her talents were endless, her light always bright, her humor so damn funny. She was a deeply talented artisan and painter, terrific cook and baker, she enjoyed golfing in her younger years, fishing in her golden years and playing card games her entire life. Norma was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Tillsonburg and the St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s League. Always a caring mother to her children and their families: John (Tawnya) Freund, of Plano, Texas, U.S.A.; Joel (Joanne) Freund, of Delhi; Karen (Paul Papadopoulos), of Ancaster; Kelly Demeyere, of London. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Joseph Freund, Josh Freund; Davis (John Mason), Jena (Joey Polley) (their daughter Charlotte), Kendra Freund; Kate (Kennedy Hindley) (their children Quinn and Finn); Alexa Demeyere-Turner (Steve Turner), Deanna Demeyere, Dylan Demeyere (fiancé Jordan Crabbe). Also survived by her siblings Maxine Balazs (John Pott), of Strathroy; Max (Lynn) Ferguson, of Aylmer; her best friend Betty Steiner (sister-in-law), as well as by nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by her parents Bert and Nellie (Dryer) Ferguson, as well as by her two brothers George and Bill.
In keeping with Norma’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place following a private family farewell. A private family gathering, and funeral liturgy will be held in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Home Chapel, Tillsonburg by Rev. Fr. Seejo John, of St. Mary’s R.C. Church. Everyone who knew Norma is invited to share favourite memories, photos, express personal condolences or contribute memorial donations to “St. Mary’s R.C.
