Obituary of Nick Hengelmann
Hengelmann : Nicholaus “Nick”
Surrounded by family, Nick passed away peacefully at the Douglas Memorial Hospital July 13th 2023 at the age of 93.
In April 1957 he went on a date that led to a September 1958 wedding and a loving marriage of nearly 65 years to Shirley (nee Munro).
He now watches from heaven over his loving daughters Sheila Scolaro (Lorenzo) and Laura Hengelmann (Danny Spoar).
Forever the cherished papa to Rachelle (John Karsseboom) and Justine Niceforo and adored Great Papa of Damien and Hayden Karsseboom.
He will be missed by in-laws Paul and Colleen DiMora, niece Debbie Winger and nephew Chris Winger as well as godchildren Krissy Smith and Waseem Naz.
He is reunited with his parents Joseph and Katharina, Shirley’s parents Lindsay and Addie Munro and his brother in law Gordon.
Nick will be remembered by his extended family, the friends made during his service as CFO with the 377 Allen Troop Fort Erie for 18 years as the President of the Fort Erie YMCA and his 25 year employment with Mentholatum Canada as a Chemist and Quality Control.
The family gratefully recognizes the compassionate cate provided by Dr. Scher and the wonderful staff of Douglas Memorial.
Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Ave., Fort Erie entrusted with arrangements. The family will receive friends from 6-9 on Friday July 21st. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church on July 22nd at 11 am. If so desired, contributions to the Fort Erie SPCA would be appreciated by the family.
