Nicholas (Nick) Vuk passed away peacefully on January 15, 2023 at the grand age of 92. Nick was born in Windsor, Ontario, on December 20, 1930 to his mother Mary. He was adopted at the age of 18 by Jifco Vuk,
his mother’s second husband. He grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan with his parents and his two sisters, and eventually moved to Toronto, Ontario where he met his future wife Mary Joan Adele (Adele) nee Crisp at the age of 17 when they were both working at Reliable Toy. He always said he was “a family man”, and that he was – everything he did was for his wife Adele who he cherished his entire life – they were married for 65 years – and for his three sons, James Stewart (Jim), David Allen (Dave), and Michael John (Mike). He extended his love to his expanding extended family, and when all of his family got together, he would look proudly around the room and express how happy and truly grateful he was to have his family all together.
Nick was a very proud man, and a very smart man. When he was a young boy living in Saskatchewan, he would embark on the long walk with his dog to the local public school where he would peer through the window, longing to be a student and sit at one of the desks – he was still too young to attend school at that time. He expressed this love of learning and his innate curiosity throughout his life. Nick could fix anything – he was incredibly intelligent and creative. He was a manager at the Inglis factory in Port Credit until it closed its doors – his sons Jim and Dave both worked under his very ‘watchful eye’ – oh the stories they could tell! He was a strict man at work but a fair man – if you were not doing your job, Nick would know! He supported and encouraged his three boys in their sports endeavours – coaching hockey and lacrosse and attending all of their many games, practices, and tournaments with his beloved wife Adele – a truly wonderful time in their shared lives. Nick would cheer his boys on and offer his advice on plays from the stands when he was not coaching them – you could always hear Nick’s voice no matter how many people blanketed the stands – he was so very proud of his beloved sons.
Nick is lovingly remembered and sorely missed by his loving wife Mary Joan Adele (Adele), his son James Stewart (Jim) and his spouse Sue Anne, his grandchildren Jamie and Nicholas, his son David Allen (Dave) and his spouse Sandie, his two grandsons Cody John who predeceased him on Dec. 30/2019 and Ryley David, and his son Michael John (Mike). We all know that Nick lived a long and fulfilling life, and although he struggled with illness towards the end of his life, he faced every challenge presented to him throughout his life with both dignity, courage, and good humour. Nick was a boy who came from humble means, and together with his beautiful wife Adele, they created a life and a family that epitomized comfort, caring, belonging and the importance of family. God speed Nick/Dad/Grandpa – may your nextjourney be nothing but beautiful.
