Obituary
Nellie Wasyliw, beloved wife of the late Peter Wasyliw, passed away at the Canora Hospital on August 13, 2023, at the age of 99 years.
Nellie was born May 4, 1924, in Canora, SK, daughter of Alex and Stella (Romaniuk) Procyshen. She was raised on the farm west of Gorlitz, SK. On July 30, 1944, Nellie was united in marriage to Peter Wasyliw. The couple farmed in the Burgis district and were blessed with 8 children. Nellie was a devoted mother and always ready for the day at sunrise. She was an immaculate housekeeper and took great pride in her home. She loved the farm life, whether it was gardening, caring for animals, cooking or baking. Nellie was especially fond of baking and was always cutting out new recipes from magazines and taping them into her dozens of recipe books. Anyone who came to the farm was welcomed by her smile and some sweet treat that she had in the freezer; she was always ready for visitors.
Nellie was a warm and caring person and will be dearly missed by her family.
Besides her parents, Nellie was predeceased by her husband, Peter; son Eddy; sons-in-law, Barry Anaka and Paul Lazar; daughters-in-law, Mitzie Wasyliw and Pat Wasyliw; grandson, Trevor Miazga; four brothers: Peter, George, Bill, and Metro Procyshen; and three sisters: Lena Wiwchar, Susie Shouchuk, and Mary Anaka.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Sylvia Lazar; sons: George (Barb), Larry, Bob (Mae) Dan (Deb), Harvey, and Ed (Michelle); 8 grandchildren: Tim (Alison) Anaka, Lori Hitchcock, Jason Wasyliw, Karla (Pat) McInnis, Joshua Wasyliw (Lindsey) Carissa Wasyliw (Rob), Jennifer (Nick) Dareichuk, Brandi (Bobby) Day; and 7 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours, and friends.
In Nellie’s honour, a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, and the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Yorkton, SK, both with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Gorlitz, SK. Honourary Casket Bearers: Bob Dutchak, Wayne Unyi, Steve Pillipow, Jake Leniuk, Harvey Shouchuk, and all those who shared in Nellie’s life; Active Casket Bearers: Steve Procyshen, Ed Anaka, Tim Anaka, Joshua Wasyliw, Jennifer Dareichuk, and Karla McInnis; Cross Bearer: Nicholas Dareichuk; and Cantor: Yvonne Panchuk.
