WATERBURY, Nadea –
Nadea Waterbury was born Nadea “Nellie” Hryb in Invermay, Saskatchewan on September 30th, 1929, the year that the family arrived from Ukraine. Nadea was the second child born to Kateryna Lubinska and John Hryb after their son Mike Hryb was born in the Ukraine. After Nadea, her sister Jenny Sereda was born, also in Invermay. Nadea’s youngest sister, Sophie Jaremko, was born in Kirkland Lake after the Hryb family moved to the northern Ontario mining town in search of employment. Throughout her younger years Nadea was active in the Ukrainian community in Kirkland Lake and later in Toronto. Nadea was hard working. She worked at the Eatons in Kirkland Lake and in Toronto she held a variety of jobs including many years in the Undeliverable Mail Department at Canada Post. She was one of many women who benefitted from a settlement years after challenging Canada Post that women should be paid the same amount as men for doing the same work. In the 1950’s, Nadea moved to Toronto where she met her husband Millard Waterbury (deceased in 2015). Nadea and Millard looked forward to spending winters in Florida. They made a decision to move to Chatham, Ontario in order to be close to Nadea’s sister Jenny and to enjoy a quieter living, with less traffic, in a smaller town. They purchased a bungalow in a new development. Millard predeceased Nadea and, after living alone in Chatham for several years, she decided to move back to Toronto in 2018. She lived at Ivan Franko Retirement Home where she received great care and attention. Nadea was disciplined, tenacious and could always surprise with her vivid personality and great sense of humour. Nadea was generous, kind and she loved her family. Nadea was predeceased by her brother Mike Hryb and her sister Jenny Sereda. She leaves behind her beloved sister, Sophie Jaremko, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
