We are saddened to announce the passing of Murray Kidd on Friday, January 6, 2023 in his 81st year. Best friend and most loved husband to Janice Platt for 52 years. Loving and proud father of Greg (Judy) and Michael (Chris). Favorite brother-in-law to Bob Platt and Paula Platt Weaver (Paul). Murray was predeceased by his Dad and Mom, Orville and Clara Kidd, his brothers Doug (Vera) and Ross “Bud” (Betty and Ann) and his brother-in-law Wayne Platt. He will be missed by his favourite grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins that enriched his life in so many ways. Murray cottaged on Catchacoma Lake since he was 12 years old. He and Janice build their dream cottage where he was happiest when entertaining family and friends, fishing with his special buddy Karina, teaching kids how to catch and clean fish and driving his pontoon boat at a very slow speed! He fancied himself a “foodie” who loved to cook, eat, drink and try anything new. He was at his best when he could make people laugh with his goofy stories and corny jokes. Although he took a lot of teasing he remained a loyal fan to his Montreal Canadians and his Green Bay Packers. He thoroughly enjoyed winters in Florida, betting horses, following the stock market, all types of music and bid euchre with his buddies. He always had a twinkle in his eye, a smile on his face and a kind word. Over his career as a Funeral Director he helped many people with his kind, compassionate and confidential approach. He was a licensed trapper, taxidermist, legion member and community volunteer. Murray sat on many boards/committees both local and provincial. He was past President of the Lakefield Jolly Seniors and the Trent Lakes Seniors. His proudest achievements were being a Charter Director of the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site and member of management advisory board for 14 years, 11 years on Board of Victim Services Peterborough/Northumberland and his 6 year involvement as a Director with Guaranteed Funeral Deposits of Canada (GFD). Friends may call at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 14th. Funeral Service in the Chapel at 12 p.m. Interment Lakefield Cemetery. In memory of Murray, donations can be made to the Buckhorn Public School Breakfast Program, the Buckhorn Community Centre or charity of your choice.
