Obituary
Murray Wellington Fenton passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side, on June 30, 2023.
With the help of his family and the wonderful care of the VONs, Dr. Susan Horsefall, and caregivers, Murray was able to stay at home for his final days as per his wishes.
Beloved husband of his wife of 67 years (and childhood sweetheart), Patricia Fenton (nee Pequegnat)
Proud father to Steven (Mary) Fenton, and Sally (Peter-recently deceased) Krane
Loving grandfather to Gregory (Stephanie), Matthew, Angie (Ben),David (Lisa) and Michael (Leah) and doting great-grandfather to August, Chloe, Finn, Quinten, Elijah, Cohen, Lexis, Paxton and Zoe, who were all a big part of his life.
Murray will also be missed by sisters Nancie (Robert) Thompson, Susan (Roger) Hamilton, and brother Ray (MaryLou) Fenton and his many nieces and nephews.
Murray was predeceased by his parents, Wellington and Vera Fenton, his in-laws, Ralph and Margaret Pequegnat, an infant brother, Charles Edward, sisters Jean (Bill) Campbell, Edith (Robert) Dryden and Mary (Howard) Parker, and also his son-in-law, Peter, who was like another son to him.
Murray was born, and lived in Port Elgin his whole life. It was here that he met his wife, married, raised his family and enjoyed a career as a General Motors Dealer for over 50 years.
He loved and took great pride in his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were always a huge part of his life right to the end.
Murray and Pat enjoyed a busy retirement with travel, winters in Florida and boating throughout the state, as well as boating in Lake Huron, Georgian Bay and the Trent-Severn during the summers.
Murray always lived life with gusto. His strength, awareness and sense of humor were inspiring to all who spent time with him. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will also remember his many sayings, and escapades.
A gifted mechanic, Murray had the innate ability to understand how things worked simply by looking at them. He always took pride in being able to take care of things himself, no matter the problem. He was a good man, who lived true to his own convictions, while always remaining fun to be around. He was a great mentor and role model to those who knew him well.
A celebration of Life will be held at the Queens Bar and Grill on Wednesday July 12 from 2-5
A private family interment will be held at the Port Elgin Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of Flowers, donations to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice are welcome.
