Obituary of Muriel Eileen Hallett
Muriel Eileen (Adams) Hallett Obituary
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Muriel Hallett of Fredericton NB at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
Muriel was born on December 4th, 1926 in Beauford, NB. She was the daughter of Oliver and Edith Adams. Around the age of 3, she moved with her family to Juniper. Muriel attended school there and after graduating went to Vocational School in Woodstock. She took a commercial course in typing, shorthand, and office management. Muriel quickly found a job with J. Clark and Sons in Perth. She moved to the Fredericton office in 1952 and later worked for Atlas Construction until she retired in 1988.
Muriel had known her husband, Jim, ever since she could remember. Their families lived beside each other in Juniper. They were married in 1957. She used to say that “Jim is a Saint” because he had three women living in their house. Muriel’s sister Pauline moved in with them in 1958 and later her mother did too.
Muriel enjoyed travelling, regularly connecting with her father’s relatives in PEI. Her mother came from England as a “Middlemore Homes” child, so they often visited family in England over the years. Muriel’s adventures took her around Europe, Scotland, Ontario, Newfoundland, United States, and a cruise in the Caribbean. After a winter visit to see family in Florida, Muriel, Jim, Pauline, and Edith decided to make It a yearly winter stay for over 30 years. Even after Jim passed, Muriel continued to drive herself and Pauline to St. Petersburg, except for the last few years that they went and they hired a driver.
She was predeceased by her parents Edith and Oliver Adams, her husband James (Jim) Alexander Hallett, and her sister Pauline Adams, nephew Laurie Mersereau, and many brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws and nieces. Muriel left behind many relatives: Doris and Jill Mersereau, Michelle, Eric, Alice and Clara Thornhill, Guida and Don Libby, and many Adams and Hallett relatives. Muriel also had a steadfast adopted family of Anne, Andy, Mitchell (Kaitlin) and Carter (Sara) Small and their extended family.
She was actively involved with Gibson Memorial United Church, helping with their many fundraising endeavors. Muriel also liked reading, sewing, playing cards, knitting, and puzzles. She was always ready for an outing, if only to Pizza Delight or a long drive to see the trees and flowers.
We would like to thank the folks at Windsor Court for their kindness and support over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be held from York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 10 am, followed by Memorial Service in York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel at 11am. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
