Obituary For Muriel Evelyn Greig (Wastle)
January 14, 1928 – April 5, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Forever Luved Nana.
She will Always be Luved and Missed by Son Scott, Daughter Laurel Greig, Chris McLennan, Bob Robertson, Ed Smith, and Paul Racine, Grandchildren; Haley (Phil) Pacaud, Jennifer Greig (Corey Hanson). Keltie Robertson, Rylend (Jamie) McLennan, Brodan McLennan (Rylie Paige), Connor (Mackenzie McLennan), Great Grandchildren; Carley, Teagan, & Chelsea Beasley, Charley & Caden Pacaud, Jayce & Ryder Hanson, Emerson & Aubrielle McLennan, and Jaxon McLennan, Bonus Great Grandchildren; Marcus, Daniel, & Gracelyn B. & Kian D, Her Brother Allan Wastle, and numerous Nieces and Nephews spanning five generations.
Predeceased by the Luv of Her Life and Soulmate of 75 years Bill, her Daughter Heather Ingram Smith, First Grandson Casey Ingram, and nine siblings.
Mom was born in Winnipeg, MB, the 10th of 11 children, and grew up in Oak Bluff where there is now a Memorial Park in her family’s honor.
Mom was very smart, her Papa taught her to read and write before the age of four, she skipped a grade, and graduated in grade 11. She then went on to achieve her secretarial at Manitoba College. Her first job was at the Continental Can Company, where in her words, she couldn’t quite grasp it, so after six months she was hired by a wonderful family where she excelled in her work and remained with Karasicks/Rosewald’s for almost five years.
One fine day in 1946, Mom met the One and Only Luv of her life. On her way to a dance with two of her brothers, they stopped to fuel up, and low and behold this handsome guy came out to put gas in. He tapped on the window and proceeded to ask if she would go out with him … beginning of the Truest and Rarest Luv story ever! They dated for two years then were married in 1948, had two children, moved around BC and Alberta, then moved to Edmonton where they stayed for several years. While my brother and sister were in school, she took a hairdressing course and opened up her own beauty salon in the Ottewell area. Then, in 1966, along came me (unexpected!). In 1969 we moved to Black Diamond for a year, then Cochrane for a year, and moved to Fox Creek for a six-month job in March of 1971 where we remained for 52 years.
My parents started their own business, Greig’s Crane Service, where Mom did the books for 30 years while continuing to do hair, working at Amoco (two years), Canada Post (15 years, where she retired), and, for approximately five years, as a guard at the Police station (this one still amazes us!).
Mom was an active Ladies Auxiliary member and President in 1978 and 1981-1982. We believe she was one of the founding Charter members and always volunteered for LA and the Legion. She was very proud to belong to the Legion and especially proud of being the wife of a Veteran for 73 years.
Mom enjoyed volunteering for all events, from cooking pancake breakfast for the raft races, doing work for the Historical Society, and especially being known for selling the most Duck Race tickets every year – this was always her favorite! She also really enjoyed her Ladies Luncheon once a month.
Mom was not an avid sports fan, but she sure luved to go to the racetrack, watching CFL, and playing golf and curling – she even threw the opening rock for the Queen Tournament of Hearts- and if you call playing slot machines a sport, well this was her favorite!
She enjoyed travelling, whether by vehicle or plane, sitting on the deck watching the birds, admiring her flowers, and especially sunsets. Most important of all, she luved being with family. She cherished each and every one of us.
Mom had So Much Grace, Elegance, Beauty, Kindness, Compassion, and Gratitude. A Beautiful Soul who Truly was Perfect!
We all Luv You and Miss You Beyond Words … We are comforted knowing that you are, once again, dancing with the Luv of your Life.
Please join our family in a Special Tribute to this Incredible Lady: Friday, April 28th, 2023, at 1:00pm Fox Creek Community Hall, 1 Ave, Fox Creek, AB T0H 1P0, with the interment and Luncheon to follow.
