June 23, 1978 – January 19, 2023
It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving and deeply loved daughter, Michelle Patricia Swain In the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton, AB on January 19, 2023. She was 44 years old. Michelle was born in Saskatoon, Sk on June 23, 1978 and was raised on the family farm at Maymont, Sk.
Michelle will be forever missed by her two children, Kadin (Jasmine) and their daughter, Chloe of Saskatoon, Sk. and Liv of Fort McMurray, AB; her parents, Garry & Marlene Swain; her siblings and nieces and nephews: Craig Swain, Hanna (Daniel) Golding and Calli Swain; Kelli Swain; Scott (Colleen) Swain, Maksim, Wyatt and Rielle; Jeff (Vanessa) Swain, Jaxson and Nash. She is also survived by her aunts, uncles and numerous cousins. Michelle was predeceased by her grandparents Ches & Shirley Miller, Irene & Bill Hull and John Swain and her uncle Darryl Derksen.
Michelle enjoyed her life on the farm and in her small town of Maymont. She was involved in as many activities as she could be but her favourites were the high school volleyball team and the school choir. She excelled at figure skating and played ringette. She played softball and, even though it wasn’t her favourite thing to do, it was a chance to meet with her friends so she would make sure she was always there. She loved to waterski and even though she couldn’t see two inches in front of her, you couldn’t stop her!
Michelle started her career as a hairdresser and esthetician in Saskatoon. When she moved to Edmonton about 10 years ago, she continued in esthetics for a time. In the last year and a half, she worked at Rogers Place. She loved this job more than anything as she could attend every game that her beloved Oilers played. She was a crazy fan…knowing all their stats and boggling the minds of her co-workers when she rattled off her knowledge of the game. She was also an avid fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and followed them constantly. When Michelle was young, she wasn’t much of a sports fan and she was the least interested in the family in sports of most kinds. As she grew older, she became one of the most passionate fans a team could have. It was a surprise to all of us!!
Michelle had a heart of gold and a sense of humour like no other. She was strong, brave and private and was a friend to all. She was always concerned and interested in what others were up to.
Her struggle with addiction was the fight she was unable to win. She fought hard and her family fought alongside her. She will be forever missed and loved.
Michelle will be laid to rest in the Maymont Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in memory of Michelle may be made to the Maymont Cemetery Fund, Box 160, Maymont, SK S0M 1T0 or your local Mental Health Authority.
