GEORGE (LINDEN), Marie Jeanette, age 91 of Louisdale, passed away peacefully on Monday March 20th, 2023, at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home in Antigonish.
Jeanette was the daughter of late James and Helen Linden. She demonstrated her spunk from birth, surviving a premature birth on August 16, 1931, in her parent’s home. She grew up in a close-knit, loving family with deep community roots. She married the love of her life, Albert, on June 24th, 1952. They settled next door to her parents in Louisdale to raise their three children: Carol Anne (Gerry MacCormack) Halifax; Barry (Valerie MacKay) and Kalvin (Tonya Lundrigan), Antigonish.
Jeanette had the innate ability to make all of those around her feel cherished. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, April (Barry Burns), Louisdale; Jason (Shelly Arsenault), Dieppe; Carla (David Pandachuck), Fort McMurray; Daniel (Samantha Landry), Louisdale; Alix, Halifax; Mitchell (Bobbie Martin), Toronto; Vanessa (Louie Bruno), Burlington; Lindsay (Mike Blaikie), Stewiacke and her great-grandchildren Anthony (Louisdale), Matthew (Jana Kugler) (Germany), Tyler and Amber (Dieppe), Luca (Burlington), Harper (Stewiacke) and Inara (Louisdale).
Jeanette is survived by her sister Julia (Mississauga) and brothers Herman (Louisdale) and Dave (Cathy), (Descousse). Jeanette is predeceased by her husband Albert George; sisters Dorothy and Edna as well as brothers Patrick, Ambrose (Dora), and James (Delores) of Louisdale.
Jeanette took deep pride in having the MT&T telephone office in her basement and hiring women from her community as operators. She had so many fond memories during those working years and spoke often of the great people that she got to know and all the fun that they had. She later managed the Co-op in Louisdale and was the assistant manager of the Co-op in Port Hawkesbury. She also spent time working for her dearest friend Ruth in her restaurant and catering businesses.
Jeanette was an avid volunteer for various groups and organizations within her community. She was a woman of faith and a longtime member of the Catholic Women’s League. She served many years on the Strait Richmond Hospital Advisory Committee and was a member of the Louisdale Fleur de Lis Senior’s Club in Louisdale.
Nanny and Papa enjoyed family time at their cottage on the Bras d’Or Lake, whether it was quiet mornings fishing on their boat or a lively game of Pass the Ace and everything in between. They loved traveling with their friends Alec and Ruth Boudreau, visiting family in Newfoundland and last-minute road trips to Toronto. When Nanny expected a visit from someone, she would be sure to have their favorite treats prepared: cinnamon buns, carrot cake, meat pie, lasagna, meat balls, her famous chocolate chip cookies and so much more. She always made sure the teapot was full and there was a hardy supply of treats at the ready for any visitor. She treasured visits from all her loving family and friends and never turned down a good game of cards.
The George family want to thank ALL the staff at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home for the wonderful love, compassion and care that Jeanette (and Albert) received over these last few years. Jeanette became known to many as “Mama” at the RK as she had her own way of spreading love and kindness to the staff by sharing treats, lending a listening ear, and giving the warmest hugs. There are too many to mention individually, but you all know who you are.
Jeanette peacefully closed her eyes, ready to reunite with those gone before her, especially her “Love Bug”, Albert. She left us wanting “all of my children and grandchildren to know how much I love them”.
There will be no visitation as per Jeanette’s wishes. Cremation has taken place under the direction of CH Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Jeanette’s life will take place later.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Strait Richmond Healthcare Foundation or to the RK MacDonald Nursing Home. To view photos or send words of comfort to the family, please visit: www.chboudreau.com.
