MEDEIROS, Maria Jose (nee Jacinto) 1927-2023
Passed away peacefully at West Haldimand General Hospital, on Friday, January 13 at the age of
95. Beloved wife of the late Mario Medeiros (2017) Loving mother to Elizabeth (Nick) and the
late Diane. Cherished grandmother of Taylor, Grace, and Christian. She is survived by sisters
Idalina, Salome and brother Mario. She was a devoted mother who loved nothing more than
spending time with her family. As a recent immigrant to the United States, she met her beloved
Mario in the mid-60s. They were later married in Mario’s newly adopted home of Canada in
1966. Maria was a stay-at-home mom and together with Mario created a home filled with
unwavering love for their girls Elizabeth and Diane. She was a talented seamstress and
needlecrafter who made so many of our special occasion dresses. Looking back at old photos,
my sister and I are wearing one of mom’s creations in almost every photo. Mom was a strong
believer in the power of prayer and her rosary was always nearby. She was a gentle and
compassionate soul and she will be dearly missed by all. Many thanks to the amazing staff at
AbleLiving West Haldimand for the wonderful care shown to mom.
Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block north of City Hall),
BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 6-9 p.m. A Funeral
Mass will be celebrated at St. Raphael’s Roman Catholic Parish, 4072 New St, Burlington on
Thursday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. If desired, in lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be sincerely
appreciated by the family.
