It with with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Margaret Elaine Newham (nee Devlaminck), of Tilbury, Ontario on Saturday, February 4th, 2023 at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, surrounded by her loving family.
Margaret graced her parents Jerome Devlaminck and Elsie (nee Ramboer) on July 11th, 1945, and was raised on her family farm in Merlin, Ontario. The second oldest of six children, she spend her childhood working the farm and helping with her siblings. Later, she would meet the love of her life and marry Michael Gordon Newham on January 8th, 1966, where they shared 57 years of so much love residing in Merlin, Ontario until they moved to Tilbury, Ontario in March of 2020. Together, they created and raised two amazing young boys, Bradley Newham (Shelley), and Robert Newham (Shawna-Lynn). Margaret is known as grandma to Courtney MacDonald (Brendan), Hailey Simpson (Alexander), Aaron Newham, Brady Newham, Ridge Newham (Kayla), Hunter Newham (Rochelle), Corde Hartley (Taylor), Owen Carrol, Theodore Wuerch, Brittney Wuerch, and special granddaughter and best friend Emily Rubinski. Great Grandma to Theodore (T.J), Autumn, Willow, Jayce, Mason, Houston, Harmony, Avery, Remington, Xavier, Amana, and her newest great grandson, Jet. Margaret is survived by her siblings, Mary (George) McFadden, Dolores (Drew) Burnie, Dorothy (Danny) Johnston, Nancy (Randy) Toll, and Maurice (Elaine) Devlaminck. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Barb (Brian) Donnelly and Corinne (John) Reynolds. Predeceased by brothers-in-law Leonard Newham (Jean, and Dolores) and Roger Newham (Brenda) and mother and father-in-law Gordon and Hilda Newham. Margaret will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends she made over the years, especially her best friend Joan Stephens.
Margaret worked at the Bank of Montreal in Merlin, Ontario until she retired after 30 years of service. She was member of St. Patrick’s Church, where her faith in God and the Catholic religion was her stepping stone to the most selfless and more generous soul. Anyone was fortunate enough to have her in their life. Margaret gave of herself to anyone who needed her, whether it was a cup of coffee over great conversation which always included a taste of her amazing baked goods, or a helping hand with children, grandbabies and countless friends that called on her. She lived each day with grace and gratitude for all that her and Michael shared. Her love for her husband and family was unmatched to any other person imaginable. In August of 2008, life challenged their marriage when Michael suffered a stroke and Margaret became his Primary Caregiver. Her love and devotion to him was seen in the care only she could provide to him. He was the love of her life, and she made it known to all that it was her duty to take care of him even at times when she was going through treatments for breast cancer.
A special and heartfelt thank you to all the staff, nurses and doctors at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for the care they provided for Margaret during this unforeseen circumstance.
In holding to Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honour to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or Breast Cancer Research.
