Mary (Mai) Frances King (nee Wafer)
April11, 1925 – February 12, 2023
Mai passed away peacefully with her daughter at her side, holding her hand, as Mai wished.
Mai is survived by her daughter Susan (Ron) and grandson, Christopher, her good friends Bev, Lois and Alex, Elaine, Francine and Nancy.
Predeceased by her husband Christie,son Tony and six siblings.
Born in Dublin Ireland, Mai was the third of seven children. She went to the Dublin School of Art on a Scholarship. Mai was a very talented seamstress and had a great artist mind. Mai married Christie in 1956 and had two children, Susan and Tony. In 1963, Mai and Christie with their children moved to join family in Toronto. After Christie passed away suddenly, Mai went to work as an office assistant finally retiring in July 1990 from DeHavilland Aircraft as the administrator of the flight school. Mai was a strong person throughout her life, dealing with health issues as a child, and raising two children and keeping them in a good and safe home. Mai could give as good as she got, with a great wit and sense of humour. She was a great friend to many. Retirement brought Mai to Black Creek Retirement Parks in Stevensville in 1990 as one of the original residents. Amongst Mai’s many talents, she volunteered with many committees, she taught line dancing and clogging and paper tole, and she made many friends along the way.
Williams Funeral Services entrusted with arrangements. Visitation in the Funeral Home on Monday, February 20, from 5 to 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Netherby Road on Tuesday, February 21 at 11:00 with interment thereafter. A luncheon will follow.
Many thanks to the people at Trillium Ward, Greater Niagara General Hospital, for the great care of my Mom during her last days with us.
