Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Lucette in her 71st year on Sunday, August 13th, 2023.
Beloved wife of Neil for 40 years, loving mother of Alexandre and Kyle, dear mother-in-law of Janice and Jaime, and cherished Grand-maman to Claire, Anna, Audrey, Ella, and Evelyn. She will be deeply missed by her siblings: Lucien, Eugénie and Fred, Anita and Cecil, Alice and Bernard, Louise, Marcel and Diane and sister-in-law Pierrette. Predeceased by brothers Léo-Paul, Bernard, Jean-Pierre, sisters-in-law Jean and Anna, and brother-in-law Chris. She will also be missed by Neil’s family, Gord and Barb, Murray and Maggie, Marvin and Angie, and the late Brenda (Ernie), as well as by many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Lucette was born in Buckingham, Québec to Napoléon and Eugénie (nee Thériault) Daoust. The youngest of ten children, she was fondly referred to by her nickname, ‘Chuchune.’ As a young woman, summers were spent working alongside her brother, Marcel at his cabane. Lucette attended York University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974, and then a Bachelor of Education the following year. She began her teaching career in Ottawa and went on to teach in the Halton District School Board for over 30 years. Most of her career was spent at Pineland Public School, where she was a French Immersion teacher. Lucette will be remembered by her colleagues, many of whom became friends, as dedicated and kind. Lucette married Neil in 1983. They moved to Orkney and welcomed their two sons, Alex and Kyle. Later, they moved to Copetown and built a life farming broccoli, taking the boys to their various sporting activities, and going on family trips.
In retirement, Lucette found joy in meetings with the ‘Bus Ladies,’ daily walks, and keeping in close touch with her beloved brothers, sisters, and close family. ‘Madame,’ as Neil called her, will be remembered as a loving travel partner. Together, they went on road trips throughout Canada and the United States, where countless memories were made. She also enjoyed camping with Neil, Alex, and Kyle as young boys, and later with her grandchildren.
As a Grand-maman, she was always generous and loving. She felt the most joy when surrounded by her five ‘girls,’ and was quick to smile and laugh in their presence. Many will remember Lucette for her infectious laugh and her extraordinary sense of humour.
In keeping with Lucette’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Lucette’s life will take place at Copetown Woods Golf Club, 1430 Concession 2 Rd. West., Copetown, Ontario, L0R 1J0 on Sunday, September 17th, from 1 pm – 4 pm. Spoken words and memories will be shared by family and friends at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lucette’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of choice.
