It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Lloyd Robert Thompson
Predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years Mary (Lush), parents Boyd and Marjory (Haskett) siblings Jean (Wes) Williams, Leonard and Gordon sisters-in-law Norma Barrette, Noreen Nicholson and brothers-in-law Jim Archer Albert Lush and Barrie Lush.
Leaving behind children Terry Ann, Linda (Hendrik) Tempelaar, and Morgan (Jeanne) grandchildren Daniel (Charmine), Cassidy, Sabrina, Tabitha, Steven and Kevin and great-grandchildren Daniel-Torrance and Christopher.
Survived by sister June Andrew, sisters-in-law Pat Thompson, Drusilla (Fred) Holloway, Shirley Crystal, Susan Lush, brothers-in-law Bob Lush, Terry (Sharon) Lush.
Born in South Porcupine in Northern Ontario the fourth child to wandering parents. Lloyd would go on to attend 25 different public schools before entering high school at CCI. Lloyd had a mechanical aptitude and was good with his hands. He went on to apprentice with the paint crew at Dey’s Autobody, unfortunately the paints did not agree with his lungs. He tried his hand working for Rambler in Brampton but when his dad Boyd developed medical issues, he moved back to Collingwood to help with his father’s business. Lloyd would go on to build his own lift truck business, which he sold and then started a liquid waste disposal business working with Nacan and the Town of Collingwood. Lloyd would sell this business as well to retire at the age of 49. But he wasn’t able to stay retired and he joined the crew at Macleans Engineering in Collingwood.
Lloyd always had a project on the go, something he was puttering with in the shop. He was always a part of his children’s and grandchildren’s lives whether it was playing games in the back yard when they were younger or ensuring that they had a safe first vehicle to venture out on their own. He made sure that we all knew how to change a tire and the oil before we got our own vehicles.
Lloyd loved to explore the countryside around where he lived, and all his kids and grandkids would tell you about his shortcuts.
On this road of life, we all need to take a poppa shortcut. You get where you were going but you have a chance to see the countryside.
A Celebration of Lloyd and Mary’s lives will be held at Fawcett Funeral Home – Collingwood Chapel on Saturday August 19, 2023, from 1-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice Georgian Triangle or Bay Haven Senior Care Community. Bay Haven Donations
