We are saddened to announce the death of Lawrence Walter Kublik of Sherwood Park, AB, at the age of 82 years. Born May 7, 1941, eighth and youngest child of Heinrich (Henry) Kublik and Emma Henschel. He is predeceased by his parents and six of his siblings, and survived by his loyal and devoted wife Lillian Kublik, son Darryl Kublik, daughter Lori Kublik (Keith Gregory) and brother Melvin Kublik (Patricia) and many nieces and nephews.
Raised on a farm, values of hard work, responsibility and physical activity were ingrained. In 1962 Lorne graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He worked in both the private and public sector for many years before entering self-employment. Together with his wife Lillian, they established Sage Financial Services, a small accounting practice which catered to small businesses, farmers and personal tax returns.
Lorne stayed very active all of his life. He played baseball in his teens and early adulthood, did a lot of hunting with his brother Albert, son Darryl, nephew Dennis Kublik, friends Elmer Diewert and Dennis Suchy. Lorne built a cottage on Garner Lake starting in 1975 and went fishing there often with his son and daughter. He hiked with his daughter in various parts of the Rockies and the Chilkoot Trail up north. In his later years Lorne had a passion for golf, pickleball, and playing cards with his wife each evening.
After retirement Lorne traveled the world with his wife, visiting over 50 countries on every continent except Antarctica, and spending many winters in Mesa, AZ. Lorne became a member of the Edmonton Chapter of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, and served as treasurer for 15 years. He has contributed extensive ancestral histories of the Kublik and Henschel families to the Provincial Archives, going back as far as the 1700’s in eastern Europe.
Lorne was passionate about the outdoors and continued to hunt and fish with his son, and garden at home right up to the last few months of his life, while enduring a short yet challenging journey with cancer. At Lorne’s request no funeral service will be held. A private family celebration will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Lorne’s remembrance may be made to an organization of your choice.
