Laurie Murrell
June 26, 1959 – Aug 19, 2023
It is with sadness we announce that Laurie passed away peacefully the evening
of Saturday, Aug 19, 2023 with her partner at her side. She leaves to mourn her
mother Vyonne, her sisters Rhonda (Ennis), Martie (Scott Carruth), Linda
(Wallace Brevoort), and brother Larry (Shirley), and her partner and companion
in life Kelly Graham, and too many nieces and nephews to name, but she loved
them all. Laurie was predeceased by her father Jim, her much beloved and very
feisty Aunt Helen (Michaud), her first partner Bob Dalton, and her ever faithful
Dalmatian Chewy.
Laurie was born to Vyonne (Helten) and Jim Murrell in Saskatoon, the fourth of
five children. The family moved to Sherwood Park in the mid-sixties, where they
still reside in the family home. Laurie attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help until
transferring to Archbishop Jordan High to finish High School. She attended the
U of A studying Criminology, and left prior to graduating for other pursuits. She
worked for Corrections Canada at the Edmonton Max, as well as Alberta Motor
Vehicles. She got most enjoyment working with her Aunt Helen, whose business
of custom cutting and grinding steel for National Oilwell Laurie successfully
assumed after Helen’s passing.
Laurie was passionate about music, and loved concerts, festivals, and live
shows. Her nieces and nephews were also very close to her heart, and then
their children took over her time, attention, and love. She always made sure
there was enough for everyone, and loved every minute with them. She truly
adored her “little people”, and they loved her! Everyone will remember her soft
spot for her furred or feathered friends, and she made sure they all got a treat of
some sort. Her backyard bird feeders were always busy, and she delighted in
their company.
Laurie was the kindest of souls, quick with a reassuring word, generous with
hugs, and a hearty laugh that rose above the others. She will indeed be sadly
missed, and always fondly remembered.
A Remembrance Celebration will be announced at a later date.
