After a long and well-lived life, June Ward (nee Veale) passed away peacefully on August 22, 2023 surrounded by family.
June’s earthly journey has ended but her family is comforted to know that June will reunite with her loving husband of 53 years, Donald (1927 – 2004). June’s legacy of kindness and selflessness lives on in her four children: Lynne, David (Roberta), Sandy (Garry) and Diana (Darryl); grandchildren and great grandchildren: Tyler (Chrystal, Parker and Archer); Andrea (Mike), Craig (Kim), Jackie, Brenna, James (Weston), and Kelly (Zach); sister Lois and brother Robert (Karen).
June’s 93 years were full of life, humour and family. Her children were lucky to have the Best Mom in the World, always there to listen thoughtfully, provide guidance, or laugh at their antics and jokes. June was an anchor for her family, with an unwavering inner strength and calm demeanor. June and Don enjoyed a long marriage with many shared hobbies, like golf, and had the opportunity to travel in their retirement. She enjoyed a fulfilling career as an Occupational Therapist and later as a yoga instructor. June was an active member of Grace United Church and committed many volunteer hours to supporting her community. She made friends easily and was fortunate to count many lifelong friends. June was a talented seamstress, gardener and cook, passing along her knowledge and skills to her kids and grandkids. She hosted countless boisterous family gatherings, always providing a food-filled table to gather and share stories. As a grandma, June made each of her grandkids feel special, and was always there to support their many hobbies and sports. Steady and fair, June will be remembered as the heart of the family. We will miss her blue eyes, her laugh, her poise, and her love.
June’s family would like to thank the staff at Sherwood Care for their excellent, attentive and empathetic care for June in her last years, and especially for their kindness and support during her final days.
Please join June’s family on Friday, September 1st at 2 p.m. to celebrate her life at Grace United Church (6215 104 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB). In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in June’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society or the charity of your choice.
