It is with heavy hearts that the family of June Edna Alicia Crouchman (Jones, Lawrence) are grieving the loss of their much beloved matriarch – mother, grandmother/Nana, great grandmother, mother in law, aunt and friend. She was deeply treasured as a strong and beautiful woman who loved us equally. She set a shining example of how to endure great trials in life and still maintain one’s grace, honesty, strength, love and loyalty. She has always been admired by her loving family, friends, neighbours and colleagues.
In her 93rd year June was born December 12, 1930 in Es, England. She immigrated to Canada in 1959 with her five daughters April, Darlene, Tonia, Cheryl and Sharon to begin the greatest adventure of their lifetime’s. Landing initially in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with her then husband, Wilfred Jones, June embarked on what would be a more than 45 year career in Real Estate first at Pat King Realty, Halifax and later at Star Realty and Alec Murray Real Estate Company in Hamilton, Ontario. Mom was a dedicated and honest realtor taking great enjoyment helping others to find their home of choice for the families she represented. The greatest gift of Mom’s childhood was the family joy she was born and nurtured into.
Her loving parents Victor and Ivy Crouchman, brother Anthony, grandparents James and Alice Lodge, and the extended Lodge and Crouchman families shaped her life and legacy. Mom tried to emulate to the best of her ability this love and loyalty through her daughters and their families. Predeceased by her brother Anthony (2001), sister-in-law, Ann (2004), son-in-law Robert “Bob” (1996), and daughters April (1998) and Darlene (2021). Survived by Bill (Darlene) (Sean/Christine), Tonia, and Jim (Justin/Miranda and Jamie); Cheryl and Bob (Kristen/Jay; Renee/Scott, Chase, Carson, Alex and Agnes; Rachel/Darren and Thora; Tyler/Sarah), and Sharon (Bob), as well as Mom’s nieces, Nichola and Amanda and their families.
June was proud of every member of her family, who adored her in their own unique ways. Loyalty meant everything to her and she had many loving and long lasting friendships that she nurtured over nearly 10 decades of her life. Her friendships were deeply special to her and widened her family circle that brought much joy, love and mutual support.
We have a treasure trove of memories to draw upon and together we feel deep sorrow and loss while also celebrating the goodness which she tried to instill in each and every one of us. Her honesty, loyalty, citizenship, hard work, caring and mentorship were Mom’s guideposts and her resilience, strength and loyalty were honed through the years of WWII and a childhood spent in the Es, England countryside. Mom proudly took on Canadian citizenship along with her daughters and she lived her life knowing that Canada had given us a safe and permanent home in which to grow and thrive. Her life has been the model for us to draw upon and she will be forever treasured and much loved. Rest in peace our dear, beautiful Mom/Nana. You have more than earned your sleep and you are reunited with your much loved family in spirit. We miss you terribly and will celebrate you and your love for the rest of our lives.
June’s family wish to thank Dr. Anthony Dixon and the staff at Riverview Gardens 6th Floor (Chatham-Kent), for the loving care, kindness and dignity shown to our Mom/Nana, their ‘June Bug’, and ‘Junie B’. No memorial service will be held. Mom/Nana would say, “Be kind to others each and every day”. In lieu of flowers and in honour of June please consider supporting two of her favourite causes through CanadaHelps.org – Dundas Community Services or the Canadian Cancer Society.
