MACKENZIE, Joy Lynn (April 5, 1944 – December 24, 2022) – Passed away peacefully at Niagara Long Term Care Residence, Niagara-on-the-Lake on Saturday December 24, 2022 at the age of 78. Joy was the proud adopted daughter of Alex and Irene Phyllis (nee Harrison) Mackenzie of Hamilton. Joy was adopted at birth by these wonderful, generous, loving parents. Joy was also the wife of Frank Maillet of Niagara Falls for 20 years until his death September 14, 2012. He was a wonderful husband and friend. Frank was skilled in many trades and a community volunteer for numerous organizations such as baseball, hockey, Cub Scouts, the Boys and Girls Club, etc. Joy also leaves behind her brother Dave Mackenzie, and sister Luise Mackenzie Reed. Predeceased brother, Jim Mackenzie (September 17, 2018). Joy Mackenzie graduated at the head of her Municipal Recreation Course in 1968, and thereafter worked in that field for about 20 years. She was a member of the Society of Directors of Municipal Recreation of Ontario. She worked for the City of North York, the City of Niagara Falls and the Town of Beamsville in this capacity. She also served the S.D.M.R.O. as an Executive member and member of the Board of Regions. Joy was recruited by the Province of Ontario to act as a consultant, supervisor and Chief of Personnel for another 8 years. She also took postgraduate training in Gerontology and worked in that capacity for First Place in Hamilton. Joy and Frank were avid country music fans and danced regularly with friends throughout the Region. They also enjoyed their cottage in Muskoka through the spring, summer and fall seasons. They had many sailing friends in cottage country. A special thank you to the entire staff at Niagara Long Term Care Residence, especially those on the second floor, for their compassionate care of Joy. Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to gather at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls for a celebration of Joy’s life on Tuesday January 10, 2023 at 1:30 pm. Inurnment will follow at Fairview Mausoleum, where she will be reunited with her loving husband.
