CHIASSON, Joseph
“Richard” – Age 80, of Enfield and
formerly of Truro and Cheticamp, Cape Breton, passed away on Monday,
February 13, 2023 in the Magnolia Long Term Care Facility, Enfield,
where he had been residing. Born in Cheticamp, he was the son of the
late Simon Joseph and Evelyne (Deveau) Chiasson, formerly of
Cheticamp.
Richard was not a
particularly outgoing person, but for his family and friends they saw
a very caring, honest person who did not require material things to
make him happy. He cared for and loved his family very much. He always
enjoyed going on fishing trips with his son-in-law, Jim. They had many
fish tales along with Tom White and John Strum, plus many others. He
always had a soft spot for older people; this was apparent in his
special relationship with his grandmother, Sophie Chiasson, who he
loved very much. He enjoyed playing cards with her and special aunt,
Antoinette Poirier. Richard worked at Crossley Carpets for 34 years
until his retirement.
Richard is survived by
his wife, Anne; daughters, Carla (Jim) MacInnis; Monique (Joey Smith);
special granddaughter, Marie MacInnis; sisters, Elizabeth Chiasson,
Calgary; Diane Chiasson, Cheticamp; Adele (Michel) Larade, Hammonds
Plains; brothers, Tommy (Joanne) Chiasson, Sackville, NS; Placide
(Carla) Chiasson, Truro.
Besides his parents,
he was predeceased by his sister, Amelia (Merle) Boucher, Saint John,
NB.
Arrangements have been
entrusted to Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro,
where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Thursday,
February 16, 2023. Funeral Mass will be held 12:15 p.m., Friday,
February 17, 2023 in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669
Prince Street, Truro with Father Jim O’Connor officiating.
Reception will follow in Campbell Hall. Interment will take place at a
later date in Robie Street Cemetery.
If so desired,
donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, Kane’s Kitchen
or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
