Obituary of John Larson
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Husband, Dad, and Grandpa, John Melvin Larson on August 14th, 2023. John was born October 15th, 1954, in Killam, Alberta to Melvin and Kathryn Larson. He was the youngest child of six and the only boy in nineteen years with five older sisters.
John began his water well drilling career at a young age before starting his own business, Larson’s Waterwell Servicing, in 1977. After forty-six years, Larson’s Waterwell is still operating today. Later in his career, John shared his love of the trade by becoming the journeyman water well instructor at Red Deer Polytechnic.
John is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years Carol Larson, daughters Kristi Larson (Taylor Van Tighem) of Edmonton, Sheena Larson (Kaylan White) of Edgerton and their children, Annika and Barek. He is also survived by his sisters, Dolores Simpson of Crossfield, Norma Probst of Edmonton, Pat (Bud) Horinek of Lacombe, Roxy Toppe of Red Deer, and Elsie (Jack) Ramsden of Red Deer. Alongside John’s mother-in-law, Shirley Simpson, sister-in-law, Karen (Dale) Kelndorfer, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents, Melvin and Kathryn Larson, his infant brother Kenneth Larson, his brothers-in-law Gus Probst, Eric Toppe, Ray Simpson, his nephew Kevin Probst, and father-in-law Harvey Simpson.
The celebration of John’s life will take place at the Lougheed Community Hall on Monday, August 21st, 2023, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Alberta Water Well Drilling Association. To honor John’s legacy, donations will be put into a John Larson Memorial bursary fund for an outstanding student of the Red Deer Polytechnic Journeyman Water Well Drilling program. Donations can be made via e-transfer (awwda2019@gmail.com) or cheque (payable to AWWDA).
