JOHN PATRICK DUNPHY
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John Patrick Dunphy with his wife Carol at his side, on Sunday, September 3rd . John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol (nee Penton), his son Steven Dunphy (Alison) and daughter Natasha (Darren Ryan) and
granddaughters Sarah, Emma and Laura. He leaves to mourn a large and loving family including his brothers Ron (Norma), Ray (Debbie), Fred (Andrea) and sisters Maureen (John Young), Margaret Lambert and Janet (Craig Carter). In the Penton family, his mother-in-law Margaret, brothers-in-law Bernard (Zeta), Len (Debbie), and Ray and sisters-in-law Lillian (Mike Logan), Michelle (Stephen Pearce), and Mary Jane (Kurt Riemann). John was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Dunphy, his father-in-law Ray Penton and brothers-in-law Ben Holland and Robert Rideout.
In 1951, John was born in Gander, Newfoundland where his love for the outdoors began. He lived most of his life in Labrador City where he and Carol raised their family and enjoyed many wonderful lifelong friendships. After he retired from IOC, John and Carol moved to Carleton
Place, Ontario to be closer to their children and grandchildren. John continued to work for several years in the Northwest Territories in the diamond mining industry. Throughout his life, John thoroughly enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, camping, as well as
sharing his passion for fishing with many of his family and friends.
The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff of the Carleton Place Memorial Hospital and Forest Hills Retirement Living Home for the excellent care and attention John received during his illness. The PSWs and nursing staff of both institutions have our
gratitude and admiration for the professionalism, dignity and care they provide to their patients every day.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 15th at 11:00 am in St. Patrick’s Church, Niagara Falls. The burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery where John will be laid to rest with his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
