FISCHL, John
June 28, 1944-August 30, 2023
Peacefully and in the loving embrace of his wife Jane, John decided it was time to rest on August 30, 2023.
Cherished husband to Jane for 46 years, devoted Father of Micheal (Cathy) and Leanne (Troy), and proud Grandfather to Reegan, Kaylee, and Deseray. John was a beloved brother, uncle, cousin, and good friend.
A beam of light in all his endeavors, John’s positive attitude and gracious smile was a warm welcome in any matter. An exuberant “Fantastic!!” was always his infamous reply when asked “how are you?”.
John reveled in the simple things: the importance of true friendship, dinner with family, classical and Spanish music, long bike rides (especially at Hilton Head Island), gardening and endless yard and building projects which kept him joyful.
From humble beginnings in Argentina in his early 20’s, John moved to Canada to stay with family as a farm hand in Delhi and eventually settled in Hamilton. Here he earned his Canada wide mechanic license and began working for a local Hamilton car dealer. John learned English at Mohawk College and could happily entertain a conversation fluently in 3 different languages. With steadfast determination, John worked his way up from mechanic to Service Advisor, to Sales and Sales Manager. Then, in the 1980’s John and his colleague Kurt started their first business, establishing themselves as knowledgeable and trustworthy businessmen – a reputation they proudly held when they opened Mountain Hyundai; a thriving business to this day.
A fearless adventurer and world traveler. His passion for photography and nature would lead his travels to the North, Central and South Americas, Europe and UAE. John was always on Google Earth researching his next trip. He was also a man of faith and a man of his word. The kindest and most helpful person (at times a little too helpful), he would do anything for anyone at the drop of a hat. For many years, John was a volunteer driver for the Canadian Cancer Society. He supported numerous charities, especially the Haiti Mission through his parish at St. Margaret Mary Church.
John’s family notes a special thank you for the wonderful care of Dr. Garcia-Horton and nurse Trish, along with their team at the Juravinski Cancer Centre. They are forever grateful for the outstanding care, compassion and thoughtful staff and volunteers at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice who afforded John the ability to pass with great dignity and respect which is of great consolation to his family.
Friends and family will be received at the P.X. Dermody Funeral Home, 796 Upper Gage Ave, Hamilton on Friday September 1st, 2023, between 6 and 9 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil at 8:30 pm. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be offered Saturday September 2, 2023 at St. Margaret Mary Parish, 20 Idlewood Ave, Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in John’s name to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice would be appreciated by John’s family. Online condolences can be made through www.dermodys.com.
