It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Elizabeth Popplewell announces her passing, the morning of July 2nd, 2023, at the age of 91.
Joan was born in Brockville to Reginald and Lillian Moulds on February 16, 1932. She graduated nursing from the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital (BPH) class of 1954. Joan married Frank Popplewell on August 18th, 1967 and shortly thereafter they moved to England where their beloved son Stephen was born, July 21, 1968. The family then returned to Canada in 1973 to take care of Joan’s aging mother and to continue her nursing career.
Sadly, Frank passed away December 30th 1995. The following year, Stephen Popplewell and Lisa Busby married in Brockville, on Aug 24th, 1996, then moved to Calgary, Alberta the same year. They welcomed 2 wonderful children, Kiana and Riley between 2001 and 2007. When Joan retired from nursing, she continued to volunteer with Meals on Wheels and was an active member of St. Peters Anglican Church. She also enjoyed spending time with friends, painting, knitting, swimming, and could finish a Sudoko puzzle in five seconds flat!
Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was smart, kind and caring to everyone around her and will be greatly missed by all.
Please join us Thursday, July 6th at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville for visitation from 1 – 2 pm with a service at 2 pm in the chapel followed by interment and light refreshments. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the The Smile Program or the Cooperative Care Centre.
