Jean Poirier, 66, of Moncton, passed away on Sunday March 12,
2023. Born in Dalhousie, he was the son of the late Réal
and Rose-Marie (Coulombe) Poirier.
A businessman for much of his life, he was very
community-minded and made many personal connections with people all
across the country. It was not uncommon for one of his children to
begin chatting with a stranger only to learn of a connection to their
dad.
For Jean, family was at the heart of his life. He loved a
good seafood feed (particularly lobster) around a huge family table.
When the children were small, he could often be found coaching their
various sports teams (even if it was a sport he’d never
played). He loved to swim, and enjoyed maintaining the pool at the
house in Riverview, making the Poirier’s place a popular
hangout for his children and all of their friends.
He and Mary loved motorcycling and explored much of the east
coast by bike with friends and family. On Labour Day weekend, you
could find him at the Wharf Rat Rally in Digby after a full summer of
riding that usually included a big trip alongside his brother
Louis.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary (Duffy); three
children: Luc (Sarah) of Sackville, Charlie and Alynn, both of
Moncton; three sisters: Rachel Robichaud (Livain) of Lower Newcastle,
Anne Poirier (Robert Basque) of Cap-Bimet, and Georgette Lestage
(Francis) of Grand-Barachois; one brother, Louis (Dominique Paquet) of
Moncton; one sister-in-law, Karen MacLellan (Mike) of Moncton; as well
as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother,
Robert.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) where the
funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, March 17 at 2 pm.
Visiting hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and Friday
from 1 pm until time of funeral. The funeral service will be streamed
live; to view the funeral, go to his obituary on the Frenette website.
In memory of Jean, a contribution to the Friends of the Moncton
Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
