CHMIEL, Jean Marie (nee Kamionka) – Passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Monday January 2, 2023 at the age of 98. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter (1980). Cherished mother of Richard (Tammy) Chmiel of Carleton Place, James Chmiel (Carey Burke) of Niagara Falls and loving grandma of James, Kyly, Erich, Jeremy. She will be fondly remembered by her dear friends John Kelly, Mary Henry, Cathy Wood and her PSW Eileen Smith. Predeceased by her brothers Mietek, Stanislaw, Bolek and her only sister. In 1947, after WWII, she immigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia to work at the childrens’ hospital. She met her husband Walter in Halifax, and together they moved to Northern Ontario, before settling in Chippawa. Jean was a devout member of Sacred Heart Parish, a proud CWL member and member of the Royal Canadian Polish Legion. She lived a life full of warmth and love – she gave the best hugs. Jean loved her grandchildren, and in return, they adored her. Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. visiting Friday January 6, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Vigil prayers will be held at the funeral home at 7:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday January 7, 2023 at 10 am at Sacred Heart Church. Cremation will take place, with the Rite of Committal to take place at a later date. In memory of Jean, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church, and would be appreciated.
