August 1st, 1957 – February 26, 2023
It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of “Jay Bird” Derby, surrounded by loved ones, on February 26, 2023. Jay is survived by his wife Lori, of 23 years, and his siblings, Gaye-Dawn (Bill) and Danny (Mary). Brother-in-law of Cheryl (Joe), Tom (Kimberly) and Rob. Jay was loved by his children, Rob (Allison), Crystal (Jamie), Shawna (Craig) and Jay Jr. He will also be greatly missed by his grand children: River, Reid, Everett, Dakota, Aria, Ava and Aleigha. Predeceased by his parents Lillian and William Derby, and older brother Randy (Julie).
Jay was a passionate angler, who loved the northern cottage life. A Montreal Canadiens fan through and through. Known by many, the title ‘social butterfly’ did not do him justice. Jay wasn’t the life of the party, he was the entire party.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the caring staff at Windsor Regional Hospital and the amazing ICU staff for their compassion and guidance through this difficult time.
As per Jay’s wishes, cremation has occurred and a family gathering will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Windsor Cancer Foundation or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements under the care of the Kennedy Funeral Home Ltd. (519-776-7378) 128 Talbot St. North, Es.
