On September 4th, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with cancer, James (Jay) Brodie passed away peacefully at his home in Chatham, surrounded by his family and an enormous amount of love.
Jay was born to his beloved parents, James (Jim) and Joyce Brodie of Chatham township. He was a devoted husband and best friend to his wife, Lynn, and the most supportive and loving father to Justine (Ryan) Organ, Laura (Brandon Fife) Brodie, and TJ (Amber) Brodie. He thought the world of his mother and father-in-law, Lorne and Helen Zimmer; his sisters and their husbands, Jodi (Simon) Iu, Jill (Harold) Gillier, Julie (John) Markarsky, and Janelle (Dave) Ross; and his in-laws, Kevin (Brenda) Zimmer, Lori Badder, and Lisa (David Charbonneau) Zimmer. He adored and loved his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Jay was blessed with friends, too numerous to name, who loved and supported him throughout his life and especially through his illness.
He worked at Enbridge (Union Gas) for 30+ years and valued the many friendships and memories he made while working at the ‘Gas’. Enbridge made up half of his career portfolio, the other half was filled by his true passion, farming. He loved watching the seeds he planted turn to crops and never found the hard work to be work at all.
He loved sports, especially hockey and baseball and accomplished many great things during his time as a player and coach, including multiple championships and being inducted into both the Chatham and Dresden Sports Halls of Fame.
Perhaps his proudest accomplishment was becoming a grandfather. Jay was the absolute best Papa to his seven grandchildren, Rylie, Brinley, Zoey, Severn, Dillon, Church, and Palmer. His grandkids loved spending time with him, getting a push on the swings, soaking in the hot tub, singing country music, getting tractor rides or watching hockey games. He will be tremendously missed by his babies.
The Brodie family would like to thank the staff at the CKHA Emergency Department, the Progressive Care and the Oncology Units for their continuous care and for always being there for Jay.
Friends and family are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham on Friday September 8th, visiting from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider the Dresden Minor Hockey Association, the Lighthouse Foundation, and the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation (CKHA). On-line condolences may be left at www.alexanderandhoulefuneralhome.ca
