Obituary
It is with broken hearts, but gratitude for having her in our lives, that the family of Janice Marie McTaggart (nee Buckley) (Burgess) announces her peaceful passing on July 1, 2023, at Bobby’s Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong Saint Johner, she was born on January 25, 1949 and was the daughter of the late Wallace and Helen (Driscoll) Buckley.
Janice served in the Ladies’ Auxiliary for the Royal Canadian Legion (Branches 22 and 69) for her entire adult life, celebrating her 50th year of service on June 26th 2023. During this time, she also worked in the office at Saint John Shipbuilding during the Frigate Program, then was a medical secretary for Dr. GM Thornhill for over 20 years.
Janice is survived by her husband of 16 years, Allan McTaggart; son: Robert (Darwin) Burgess; stepchildren: Derek (Nicole) McTaggart, Charity (Stephen) Chedore, and Amy (Donald) Cairns; grandchildren: Brandon (Angela), Alexander (Chelsey), Devon, Emily (Cody), Beatrix, and Rylee; great-grandchildren: Zoey, Hayes, Sebastian, and Kenna; brother: Brian (Joanne) Buckley; special nieces: Samantha (Travis) Lawson and their son Jack, and Jennifer Buckley; and sister-in-law: Elaine Buckley.
Besides her parents, Janice was predeceased by her first husband John Burgess, and her brother Douglas Buckley.
The family thanks the entire staff of Bobby’s Hospice for their warmth and care they provided during Janice’s final days.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). A Celebration of Janice’s Life will be held on Monday July 10th, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69, from 1 PM – 3 PM, with a Legion Tribute that will take place at 1pm, following a private interment at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Luxor Shriners Transportation Fund, Bobby’s Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
