With profound sadness, we share that James (Jim) Michels of Osgoode passed away at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice in Kanata Ontario on Saturday September 23, 2023 at the age of 62.
He was the seventh of nine siblings: Peter (Noreen), Geraldine (late Maynard McEwan), Jack (Mona), Theresa (Rick Lemieux), Betty (Gerard deBruijn), Sylvia (Daryle Payne), late Martin (Elaine) and late Roger. James was predeceased by his parents Henry and Maria Michels, and stepmother Doris Michels.
Uncle Jimmy will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews Matthew, Thomas, Gavin, Richard, Christine, Kimberly, Brian, Christopher, Graham, Shelley, Heather, Colleen, Quincy, Jordan and Steven, and their families. Predeceased by nephew Jeffrey, nieces Stephanie and Shannon, and sister-in-law Maria. James will be fondly remembered by many friends and neighbours, cousins, and extended family including Megan, Martine, Joseph and the Cleland family.
A bachelor who had a big heart for his family, neighbours and friends, James was a sentimental man with fond remembrances of those who had passed on before him. He gave his nieces and nephews (and their children a generation later) the most adorable stuffed toys as Christmas gifts when they were youngsters, and these were treasured favourites.
Jim had several serious health issues in recent years, he amazingly overcame so many hurdles, until cancer returned with a vengeance this year. He was blessed and so appreciative to always have his family and friends rally around him in his times of need. His good friends and neighbours were a tremendous support over the years, especially the Schryver and the Van Boxtel families.
Jim’s family would like to thank the many doctors and medical staff who have provided excellent care over the years at the Ottawa Heart Institute, The Ottawa Hospitals, as well as Winchester District Memorial Hospital. The compassionate palliative teams at Jim’s end of life were wonderful to ensure Jim was comfortable. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Daley Family Funeral Home, 6971 Bank St. on Wednesday September 27 from 6-9 pm. Funeral Thursday at St. John The Evangelist Church, 2546 Stagecoach Rd. for Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Condolences may be left at www.daleyffh.ca
