It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Joseph Rich, who died peacefully at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre – Chesley surrounded by his loving family the evening of July 14th, 2023. He was 89 years old.
He was born in Formosa, Ontario on June 24, 1934. He was a beloved father to Joe (Donna), Pete (Michelle), Mary Lou (Tony), Dave (Robert), Rob (Charlotte), Paula (Martin), Mike (Julie), Sharon (Nicole) and Roseanne (Bart), grandfather to Cindy, Austin, Brady, Emily, Julie, Laura, Megan, Keaton, Darren, Kaylee, Ethan, Hudson, Addison, Bryce, Riley and Owen, great grandfather to Emmett and Jackson.
Jim was pre-deceased by first wife Stella (nee Zettler) and second wife Catherine McKeeman, son-in-law Nizar, grandson Blake, his parents Antionette and George Rich, brother Gerry, sister Helen (Doug) Schlosser, brother Norbert (Jackie) Rich, and Father George Rich. Lovingly remembered by his sister Bernice Snatynski, Father Oliver Rich, and sister Barb (Harold) Zettler, sister-in-law Diana as well as many nieces and nephews.
His childhood instilled a great passion for farming and teaching. Jim was an elementary teacher in various local schools from 1959 to 1979. And then continued to fulfill his time working the land on the family farm. He remained close to the farms after retirement to lend a helping hand wherever possible. Jim could always be found travelling the countryside with his trusty dog Lizzy by his side. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, building and repairing anything he put his mind to.
Jim was a member of Formosa Immaculate Conception Church, Knights of Columbus, the Formosa Lions Club and St. Joseph’s Aid Society.
We would like to thank the doctors and staff at the hospital for the excellent care and comfort they provided to Dad.
Friends and relatives are invited for visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Cameron’s in Walkerton (1106 Yonge Street South) Knights of Columbus Prayers at 4:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Church, Formosa. Reception to follow.
