Obituary
It is with broken hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph “Guy” Ferguson, devoted and loving husband of 67 cherished years to Bertha (Hawkes), which occurred on December 23, 2022, at Loch Lomond Village. Born in Tracadie, N.B., on May 31, 1934, he was the son of the late James Arthur and Marie Alexina (Alice) Ferguson.
Guy had many different occupations over the years. He worked in the insurance industry and for the County Corrections Centre, to name a few, but he was primarily involved in the food services industry in one capacity or another; most notably managing Deluxe French Fries in west Saint John until his retirement.
Family was everything to Guy! He was a very kind and generous man who was always willing to assist family or friends in need of his help. He loved cooking and hosting large family gatherings; especially Christmas Eve, where his famous chicken stew and seafood chowder were enjoyed by all who attended.
In 1953 Guy met Bertha; the love of his life; his “sweetheart”. They married in 1955, raised their 6 children and spent the next 67 years in loving companionship – you seldom saw one without the other! Together, they enjoyed attending a variety of social events, dancing or playing cards.
In addition to Bertha, Guy is survived his sons; Kevin (Debbie), David (Kim), Chris (Theresa), Terry, Shawn (Joan) and his daughter Tanya Allain (Rick); 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; his brother Edouard (Donna) of Ottawa and his sister Ruby Kingsley of Ontario; his sisters-in law; Rose Ferguson, Marie Ferguson, and Joan Ferguson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Guy was predeceased by his brothers; Vincent, Adjutor, Vianney, Delphis, Reginald, Edouard, Edmund, and Bernard and his sisters; Alexina Ferguson, Lucina Harrity, Hedwidge Hayward, Doris Murphy, Annette Harrity and Anne Marie Votour.
His family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Loch Lomond Village (especially his niece, Paula Debly) and to the in-home support workers from Kindred Home Care for the kindness and compassion Guy received while in their care.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022, at 10:00 am in the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations in memory of Guy may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
