Ian was born in Nelson BC on Mother’s Day 10 May 1942 to Earle and Gladys Swanson (nee Lambert). The family relocated to Penticton in 1953 and for Ian Penticton was really a place to stay forever as he lived here until his passing on September 6, 2023.

Ian was a quiet, gentle, thoughtful, caring man with a wicked sense of humour. He was an artist who painted animals, landscapes and Hot Rods. Ian played bass and lead guitar in a rock band during his teens and twenties. He crafted incredible woodwork and often combined woodwork with his art. Together Ian and Diane built a 1955 hot rod truck that Ian named “Bert”. Ian was also an avid gardener who gardened so that he could create vibrant flower arrangements.
Ian was a member of Masonic Lodge 147, the Penticton Shrine Club and played the horn in the Gizeh Arabian Band.

Sympathies message

  1. We knew Ian to be a warm, kind and gentle individual whose artistic abilities ran deep. We didn’t often get to see each other, but when we did get together, it was always a time of great joy and good food! We’ll miss his big smile, fast wit, and his passion for family, friends, and the arts. Our life was far richer with Ian in it! We send our love and sympathy to Diane and all the family.

Much love, from Trevor and Jacquie
