Helen Kerr Callan, formerly of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Rockwood Terrace, Durham, in her 94th year.
Helen was born in January 1930 in Prescot, Lancashire, England. Her parents, Thomas and Helen Travis immigrated to Canada from England by boat in 1923. Helen was born during a visit to England. She had 3 siblings, Betty, Jack, and Bill. She married John Callan in 1947 and bore four children, Brian, Linda, Dennis, and Robert. She has 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren. It was easy to see how much she loved her family when she would talk about them to others. Her bright blue eyes would literally sparkle with pride. She also loved talking about her faith. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1964. She would joyfully express her bible-based beliefs to anyone who would listen. She also loved hugs. Getting them and giving them. And everyone got one. Even in her precious last moments, she reached out her arms, to hug all of her children.
Agape love, by definition, is love guided by principle, but even more than that, it is also a special, warm, and affectionate love. If you had the privilege of knowing Helen, not only would you have heard her talk passionately about agape love, you felt it. It was a love that she showed to all and truly defined her.
A memorial service for Helen will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness (401791 Grey County Road 4, Hanover) For those unable to attend, Zoom ID: 835 7087 0903 Passcode: 1914
