Obituary of Heike Maria Furness
Heike Maria Furness (nee Kleinke) of Saint John, passed away peacefully, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, at Bobby’s Hospice on Friday, April 28th, 2023. Born in Immenstadt, Germany, on May 17th, 1957, she was the beloved daughter of Rose Marie (nee Ertl) and the late Gunther Kleinke.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years Peter Furness. Cherished mother of Katie (Chris) Glenn of Afton Station, Nova Scotia, and Lisa Furness of Saint John. Heike will be forever remembered by her grandchildren Lilyan Furness of Saint John, and Carson Glenn of Afton Station, Nova Scotia. Dear sister of Robert Kleinke, Ralph Kleinke, and Michelle (Jason) Lohnes, all of Saint John, and sister-in-law of Anthony (Lynn) Furness. Heike will be missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Heike adored spending time with her grandkids. Prior to facing the challenges of declining health, she enjoyed volunteering with various organizations helping children, namely Girl Guides of Canada and PALS. She was also a surrogate mom to many children in the neighborhood though the years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Parish (St. Rose of Lima Worship Site), 541 Milford Road, Saint John, on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023, at 12 noon. Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home (506-634-7424).
