Obituary
On July 25th, 2023, at the age of 68, Harold David George (David) of McIvers, Newfoundland went on his next journey. He dedicated his life to community service, spending over 35 years with the McIvers Fire Department, where he served as the fire chief for most of his term. He was also passionate about his volunteer work with the Bay of Islands Search and Rescue organization. While many know him from work at the Corner Brook Pulp and Paper mill, he was also well known for being involved with special community events and initiatives, as well as being a fun-loving dart player, music and party lover, salmon fisherman, and farm tractor operator. David was strong-willed with a sense of humour, and had a sense of curiosity that led him toward many diverse interests from complex woodworking projects, and saving baby birds, to astronomy and making wine with dandelion flowers. He was a special person who was not afraid to do something different or be his own unique self.
David was a community-oriented man with many hobbies and talents who, in 1979 married the love of his life, Dallas. Together they raised their three children: Stephanie, Annette (Andre), and David (Jennifer). He was papa to his grandchildren: David, Jenny, Dawson, and Eleanor. He has two dear sisters: Diane, and Lori; as well as daughter Sheena. Brothers-in-law: Shawn (Chris), and Kirby; and Sister-in-law: Arlene (Lem). Nieces and nephews: Sonya, Jamie, Shane, Lindsi, Sarah, Melissa, and Aaron. David is predeceased by his parents: David and Cora; and in-laws: Laurence and Emma Blanchard. He leaves behind many special relatives and friends, including his close friend Calvin (Judy).
A special thanks to David’s medical team including the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the St. John’s Health Sciences Centre, and to everyone who reached out to provide kind words of support and care.
At David’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation held on Monday, July 31st, 2023 at Country Haven Funeral Home from the hours of 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, from where the funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 1st, 2023 at 2 PM in the Country Haven Chapel with Rev. Terry Loder officiating. Interment to take place at a later date.
