It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory Sampson, of River Bourgeois, NS and formerly of Deux-Montagnes, QC at age 86. Greg passed peacefully at the Strait Richmond hospital on June 14 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and declining health.
He is survived by his wife, Laurida, his daughters Jennifer (Rick) and Heidi (Patrick) in Quebec, his adopted daughter Deannah (Graham) in Ontario, grandchildren Nathalie, Ryan, Michael and Michelle, and cherished nephew Tony and niece Jan who played an integral part in his care and wellbeing while he was in River Bourgeois. He is also survived by his siblings Madeline, Arthur, Bernard, Benedict, Mary Ellen, and sister-in-law Anne (Joseph), as well as many nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends. Greg was predeceased by siblings Albert, Elizabeth, Lena, Bernadette, Anselm, and Joseph.
Greg loved to play (and cheat) at cards, cheating not because of a desire to win the game, but rather to poke fun at the players who took the game too seriously and to have a laugh. He loved to play bingo, go fishing, putter around in the garden, and he was always on the go. He loved to tease and laugh, even at his own expense. He loved music and would often whistle or sing to himself while he was going about his day. He was a kind person, always willing to lend a hand to help family and friends when they needed it.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Richmond Villa Nursing Home in St Peters, NS for the excellent care they took of Greg while he was a resident there over the past few years. The family would also like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital for ensuring Greg was comfortable in his final moments.
A small private service will be held for the immediate family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Parkinson Canada (www.parkinson.ca) or to the charity of your choice.
